Forget Borders, Falcon News on Bethnal Green is the be-all-end-all newsagents. Amongst the old favourites...Pick Me Up, Chat and carefully poly-bagged 'man material' I managed to track down the elusive Russh magazine. My love of gold chains has already been documented, but imagine how I felt when I saw this Zimmermann chain-laden body con. I think there's very little that I wouldn't do for it & the pic in their online store completely doesn't do it justice so I'm wondering if the AUDS 1,100 price tag might slip a little come sale time? I'm just off to look up currency conversion rates...

If Zack Morris covers the male department, then the honour of girl crush must surely go to Clarissa of Explains It All fame. Those high waisted denims, velvet chokers and over sized leather jackets could be fresh from a slightly dubious street style blog. The best saved til last of course...layering ripped shorts, polka dot leggings and white ankle socks with her kickin' DMs was a stroke of wardrobe genius & the long blonde hair and slightly askew 'bangs' look far better than those Shorditchey under cuts which are still sadly hanging about...only about 10 years too late girls Clarissa already had it nailed.

Though I'm quite the fan of curly hair these days, Slater was far too macho and Screech was simply a no-go, but Zack had us all in awe with his scheming and giant 'cellphone'.

So I always wished I was Kelly, but instead have been told I laugh like Mr. Belding.

This is about as close as I can actually get to Chanel and not break my bank account, and it's almost here! We've been teased for months with snippets here and there; and with pictures like these, it sure does look good. Karl Lagerfeld let the films costume designers loose in the Chanel archives and he even designed one or two outfits for Audrey Tautou for the film.

She is one lucky duck! I wonder if she got to keep any of the clothes? - I would have taken them all!

While many of us can safely say that American Vogue is slowly slipping down the ranks to be more on the same level as Cosmo, the latest issues actually has models (plural) on the front cover! While this may not be enough to save the magazine, it will be interesting to see if it will sell more issues then when celebrities (of which there are too many) are put on the cover. It's a nice change, I got to say. I'm tired of seeing celebrities with busy backgrounds on fashion magazines every single month. What happened to all the models? French Vogue hasn't forgotten about them!

A lovely friend & valued member of the FHT hybrid pub quiz team has set up a little etsy shop going by the name of The Emporium. Selling super cute necklaces to make the likes of Urban Outfitters and Topshop blush with embarrassment that they didn't come up with these ideas first. I thought the 3rd Years would appreciate the 'God Save The Queen' necklace above.

I myself? Well after a birthday spent at Chester Zoo it's got to be the zebra. Get clicking quick though, these are all one offs and we don't want tears to be shed if you're the sort to get emotionally attached to items of clothing.

The excitement of a new pencil case and set of colured gel pens doesn't really have the same allure once you've exited your teens, but a little something else can no doubt do a similar trick. For once Ebay won't be my first port of call (I know, I can hear your audible gasps from the other end of the country) as they are starting to get a little pricey, but a school outfitters might come up with the goods.

Sadly, I didn't get the Schwinn bike I'd hinted at for my birthday. To be fair its about £300, an awful lot for an Oxford wannabe who generally avoids physical activity.

After a little research, I discovered the most ridiculous bikes. Here's the top three:

1. Chanel, S/S '08, £6,200

Who can forget the Fashion vs. Sport exhibition at the V&A? Surfboards, dumbells, boomerangs...you name it, Chanel have got it (they held an exhibition dedicated to sporting goods in Hong Kong in 2006). Jennifer Aniston was given one by Courtney Cox, which says it all really.

2. Gucci, Red Bike, S/S '08, £2,100

Equally ridiculous, if not worse. But at least it served a purpose! To tie-in with the 2008 Beijing Olympics of course.

3. Puma, Glow-Rider Bike, S/S '08

Pointless, but fun. Not the world's first glow-in-the-dark bike, but there's a matching outfit, it folds, and there's a nifty feature that prevents people from running off with it. Even Kanye West loves it.

So apparently, 2008 was a big year for the bicycle industry. I wonder what 2009 has in store for us...

Langton’s Antiques Centre, Sheffield - home of Freshman’s Vintage Store, Bumblebee Vintage Clothing and Accessories, Geronimo Retro Styling’s. A great place to shop of cheap vintage pieces, Bumblebee Vintage is particularly good for 1940s and 50s hats and American box bags
Dukeries Antiques Centre, Nottinghamshire - specialising in early 20th Century jewellery, and antique furniture. They have a lovely 1930s style cafe as well.
The Red House, York - one of my favourite antiques shops, a wide range of items, with an equally wide range of prices, and dealers who are more than happy to haggle. And it’s only a stone’s throw from the Minster and Betty’s Tea Room.
Wentworth Village, South Yorkshire - Wentworth Village, originally built to house those who worked at the vast Wentworth Woodhouse stately home (famed for being supposedly the only building of its time to have 365 windows, based on the owners request to have a different view for every day of the year). The quaint village is lovely to explore, and is home to the Wentworth Antiques Centre, a great place to have a rummage for vintage gems.
Whitby, North Yorkshire - The small coastal town, famed for its use in Bram Stokers Dracula, is one of the best places to find Victoria Jet and Mourning Jewellery, jet being a local product. And as you can see, the climb to the top of the winding cobble stairs to the abbey is well worth the effort
Sheffield Antiques Centre, South Yorkshire - Set in a beautiful, sprawling building, with a labyrinth of corridors and stairways, and is a great place to find almost anything your antique loving heart could desire. And a two minute walk down the road will find you outside the equally lovely Chapel Antiques Centre.

Hey fht girls, well finally got round to adding my contribution and sharing my thoughts and feelings on all things fashion and that with you all. As you all know me and Jos did a bit of backstage smoozing during LFW. Well....if thats what you call generally helping out, dressing at a few shows, then we were most definetely rubbing shoulders! Here's a few backstage snaps.

Notice anyone familiar in the background? Why it is me and my strange looking hand. I'm thinking if i hang around here long enough maybe someone will mistake me for one of the models. That is if i suddenly grow about 2 foot!

The overall feel of the Osman Yousefzada collection was fairly grown with a strong focus on sharp tailoring, however it appealed to a young fashion forward audience with high waisted harem style trousers and 3 1/4 length tailored jackets made of a soft wool in sophisticated muted greys and midnight blue's the final touches to the look was the addition of sunglasses and the highest platform shoes i have ever seen. Which looked impossible to walk in and were really difficult to get the models feet in, but they did look amazing and added a quirky touch.

Here's a full length photo so you can see the shoes in all their glory. As you can see the collection focussed on amazing quality and tailoring that will still look good 10 years later it was a refreshing change from all the current 80's referencing.

A Touch Of The Avant-Garde...

Another thing on my 'To Do List'... the Rodchenko & Popova 'Defining Constructivism' exhibition at Tate Modern.

I've been looking forward to this larger retrospective since the Rodchenko show at the Hayward Gallery almost a year ago now. Whilst this focused largely on his photographic work, the Tate promises cinema and theatre designs as well as cotumes, which is a rare treat for my little fashion focused mind.

It's on until 17th May 2009, so will make for a perfect afternoon combined with a trip to the cafe... I highly recommend the Mezze platters. Who knew that beetroot humous could be so darn tasty?

I remember myself going to one of my first discos as a 13something girl, I proudly told my mum that 'I don't want to wear black or darkblue (she wanted me to wear a navy sailor dress) because then I will blend into the walls. Because, mum the light will be turned off so that it is not so embarrasing to dance with the boys.' And off I went in a pair of bright orange jeans from Benetton and a rainbow coloured (with matching orange stripes) tshirt which was two sizes too large for me but I had stolen it from my older sister's wardrobe which made it wayyyy cool. Well because it isn't a fashion blog for nothing. I would like you to introduce you to my wardrobe (beautifully folded, and hung up only for you dearest). I believe that your wardrobe says about a fashionista's personality what the refrigerator does about the gourmand. To quote Karl : 'If you love fashion, you live it'. There is nothing in this world that can make me as frustrated as this lover, but there are few more satisfying moments when I can put my newest love into it, either folded or put on the correct hanger (I believe in hanger feng-shui). The right hanger for the right garment and horror! dry-cleaning steel hangers. A small selection of my beloved shoes are in the front, to hide the dust-rats hiding underneath. My wardrobe has a trouser hanger which you pull out and tada! perfect. It is originally made for gentlemen and even have small embossed signs for 'handkerchiefs' and 'collars'. I feel obliged to admit that it has never looked as clean and well-organized as it was when I photographed it, 5 min later all was on the floor again. But ahh, the feeling of opening it in the morning... Probably what most people think about fresh-brewed coffee.

1. Bike Rides - ideally it would be through Hyde Park on a Pashley Princess replete with a wicker loaded with a luxury picnic. In reality it's going to be London Fields on a second hand shopper and a bag-for-life of sandwiches.

2. Pub Quizzes - I'm currently recruiting a Dream Team. Applicants must be proficient in sport, science & film...I'll be covering celebrity culture & anything else of a trashy nature.

3. Wearing More Colour – my obsession with black really needs to come to an end, so I’m bravely dipping my toe in colours and prints...a little toe at a time though, I wouldn't want to shock you all.

4. Afternoon Tea at Claridges - the cake stands is about 4 tiers high & I'm a sucker for a cucumber sandwich with the crusts cut off.

5. Le Corbusier ‘The Art of Architecture’ The Barbican – a retrospective of the acclaimed architect makes it to London...it will be particularly depressing to note the surrounding areas of the Barbican on your way out after viewing.

A collection which tells the story of the Sitwell family from ita beginnings in the 1500s, when the house was built, to the present day. Showing the origins of the family, their background, as well as their connections with some of the best known theatrical, artistic, and literary characters in Britain, including Constance Lambert, Cecil Beaton, William Walton, T.S. Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea hosts an exhibition on contemporary middle-eastern art, Unveiled: New Art from The Middle-East. a few pieces were really fantastic, but overall I was not too convinced. but you can't miss lower ground floor where plastic replicas of old-age politicians like Arafat and Khadaffi battle it out in their electronic wheelchairs. slightly disturbing and fun for a lazy Sunday. it's free too!

hello hello Bluebird. The former garage for the speed record-breaking car, the Bluebird, now hosts a restaurant, a patisserie and a private member's club. Also, there is Shop at the Bluebird. Zac Posen, Rue du Mail, Acne, Margiela and Comme des garcons has more breathing space than anywhere in London and what a play ground for crazy clothes-grabbing seek-and-hide! Take an extra look into the fitting rooms, one is covered with old polaroids, one with assymmetrical shirts.. and the staff is the most knowledgeable and friendly you have ever met! And when you are exhausted, they have a coffeebar just next to the shoes and a small spa! Now, when are we going?

There’s nothing more dangerous than living within spitting distance of one of the biggest vintage shops in London... well except perhaps living with a boyfriend who works in another one of the biggest vintage shops in London. Safe to say whilst the wardrobe has flourished the bank balance has diminished, but for those of you feeling a little more flush here’s a brief insight who’s who of the East End’s best second hand shops & few newbies too...

1. Beyond Retro, Cheshire Street E2
Vintage mecca where 90% of East London procure their ‘vintage’...

Good For: Fifties lovers – petticoats in every colour, feathered fascinators and hundreds of full skirted dresses.
Trends – they pick up on trends really quickly so you can have some real distressed 80s denim instead of the cloned Topshop version.
Boys – not to be overlooked

Not Good For: Animal lovers – it’s stuffed to the ceiling with taxidermy, fur coats & hats replete with claws and tails. Must be accompanied by a non squeamish friend to cling to at all times.

2. The East End/Brick Lane Thrift Store, Assembly Passages E1/ Sclater Street E2
Vast warehouse off the beaten track ripe for hours of rummaging...

Good For: Cheap thrills – don’t be fooled by the £10 and under flyer as prices have been seriously hoiked up since the opening days, but you can still fill up a bag for a touch less than anywhere else.
Costume parties - let’s be honest a lot of the stock in here shouldn’t be faced with the harsh reality of daylight, but if you’re after a flared 70s jumpsuit or a 90s hooker chic mini dress this is your place.

3. Absolute Vintage, Hanbury Street E1
Nicely presented but slightly overpriced girly vintage...
Good for: Shoes – hundreds upon hundreds of neatly sized rows of shoes and boots make it hard to come away empty footed.

Bad for: The purse strings – not exactly ‘high end’ clothing but the prices don’t reflect this!

4. Vintage Heaven, Brick Lane E1
Newish shop stocking the same old same old but worth a look, you know, just in case...

Good for: Garishness – if the attire of the sequin clad proprietor is anything to go by then it’s safe bet that you can acquire similar yourself here.

5. Vintage Shoppe, Brick Lane E2
A newly opened one to add to the address book...

Good for: Untouched - fresh out of storage stock that’s yet to be picked over.
Designer – rumour has it there’s a stash of vintage Chanel bags in the back but sssshhhhh we don’t need to tell everyone about it.

Sunday mornings were made for a full English and a rummage through other people’s things. The second part is actually legal now due to the rising popularity of the good old car boot sale, where you can discover things you never knew you wanted just for a couple of pounds. Here are a few simple tips for you to really get the most out of your day out:

1. Bags – do not underestimate the size or shape of the tat you may find & the ease in which you can carry it home. This is where the Ikea big blue bag really comes into it’s own with it’s ability to take on a Mary Poppins bag-esque persona. Cram it full, you never know when you’re going to be back.

2. Charm – in an age free of manners there’s nothing better than a bit of a please and a thank you to help you get your own way, and this is especially relevant when it comes to haggling. Grab a dashing partner of the opposite sex & you can work the car boot room together winning over all you meet with ease and a smile.

3. Bulk Buy – so if you uncover something you do actually want you might as well see what else you can get thrown into the bargain. A few paper backs, mismatched tea cups, or ill fitting clothes can really make a difference to your car boot experience.

4. Elbows – full on physical violence isn’t really acceptable, but there’s nothing like a subtle elbow in the ribs to allow you to pass through crowds with grace and ease. Just be subtle about it though, and maybe throw in a bit of that charm we mentioned if you get into any trouble.

5. Dressing the Part – layering is an essential part of the car booting experience, and generally the uglier the outer layers the better. This way you stay warm, go largely unnoticed and loose all sense of your usual poise and decorum to get on your hands and knees and start digging.
